The reign, as the central state institution, appropriated and exerted throughout the centuries a series of basic and essential duties, that determined the evolution and the organization of the state. As chief of the state, the lord exerted prerogatives such as political-administrative, legislative, judicial and military ones. The lord took decisions regarding: a) the administrative-territorial division of the country; b) the appointment of civil servants; c) the tax collection; d) the monetary issue; e) the exercise of his trusteeship over the church; f) the promotion of international affairs, by signing alliance or commercial treaties by declariny war or by signing a peace treaty.
